Coliving spaces in Singapore: the ultimate guide

We’ll say it. Renting has never ever been easier and we’ve got the phenomenon of coliving to thank. Coliving has picked up steam in the past few years and we’re positive it will continue to rage.

Young Singaporeans, expats and business travellers have embraced this trend that takes flat-sharing to a whole new realm. Coliving brands have successfully managed to up the fun bits of home-sharing for residents and minus the pain, hassle and annoyances.

If you’re looking to rent at one of these spaces, you’re choices for coliving companies in Singapore include:

  1. Hmlet
  2. Gnômadic
  3. Figment
  4. Lyf
  5. Login Apartment
  6. Cove Living
  7. Commontown
  8. Yolo Live
  9. Easycity by Dash Living
  10. 85 Soho

But first…

Here are the basics. Generally speaking, the logistics of moving into a coliving space are more or less the same across these companies. When you find a coliving apartment that wows your socks off, chances are you’ll be asked for…

Identification: Your passport/IC and a valid work visa that covers the tenancy period.

Contract: You’ve got to commit to a minimum rental booking of 3 months. From there on, most places have a flexible monthly option. Occasionally, you might even find places that you can rent by the week or day. (See: Hmlet’s Cantonment and Lyf Funan).

– Security deposit: You’ll need to fork out a security deposit that’s almost always refundable, provided you don’t wreck the place.

Rent: Generally, the first month’s rent is pro-rated. Some coliving spaces might need you to pay a one-time membership fee. Remember, the rent is all-inclusive but it never really hurts to ask as many questions to clarify your doubts.

Termination of Contract: A 30-day notice period is common.
