This gated estate takes its name from a blend of Koh Samui and “Jana”, the Arabic word for paradise, reflecting its setting by the coral cove on the island’s northeastern coast. It comprises 27 individually designed villas, ranging from one to eight bedrooms, each with an oversized private infinity pool, terraces, open-plan living and dining spaces, and private beach access.

Architect Gary Fell of GFAB Architects, winner of the Bloomberg/Google award for Best Architecture in the World, drew inspiration from Oscar Niemeyer’s sculptural approach in integrating the villas with the site’s natural rock formations and indigenous trees. Set into the hillside above the cove near Choeng Mon and Chaweng, the villas combine angular architecture, layered rock and pools, with views towards the sunrise and the islet of Koh Matlang.

Each property comes with a dedicated villa manager and maid, with a private chef available on request, while an Experience Manager arranges land and water excursions, from sailboat trips to chauffeured island tours and waterfall visits. Owners also have access to professional estate and villa management, concierge services, and an optional rental programme, within a secure, self-contained community.

John Kinder, owner’s insights

The original concept was for friends to buy plots, build their own homes, and return regularly to holiday together. It was about finding a place you would be happy to return to, year after year.

The pioneers arrived here in the mid-nineties, maybe slightly earlier. At the time, the site was largely covered in coconut trees and local flora. But it was the view that drew people here.

The architect, Gary Fell, wouldn’t have been well known at the time, but he had this sort of Oscar Niemeyer-type view about buildings, space, and angles. He integrated the buildings with layers of rock and pools, and has remained involved throughout the 25-year development.

Gary’s vision was always to consider how the property would evolve over time. So what we’ve always been trying to do is keep the footprint of the buildings down to the original concept, and make sure the landscaping is consistent.
