Where to buy cushion covers that will change everything
Whoever started the rumour that getting new cushion covers can feel as good as a full-on furniture makeover was on to something. Here are some of our fave interior decor haunts in Singapore for those days when we want to switch things up and shopping is the only answer…
Until you can get yourself over to Seminyak to clean out Kim Soo, Groundstory in Kampong Glam (pictured top) will scratch that itch for exotic decor. If you’ve taken your style cue from beautiful Bali villas – or just want to bring in a hint of boho vibes, the indigo-dyed and ikat cushion covers here are just the thing. This isn’t your average lifestyle store (it’s also a cool little cafe), and isn’t your average cushion collection…

This Dempsey Hill hotspot for decor lovers is the brainchild of stylist Hong Henwood, a supporter of Australian design with a strong eye for coastal and tropical looks. Case in point: the lush, leaf print cushions by Escape to Paradise, which are equally spectacular in colour and monochrome. Hello, #jungalow. Botanics not your thing? Check out the pyramid print, block-printed linen cushions by Walter G Textiles – the latter comes in at $140, but it’s simply stunning, no? You can shop online, but the best browsing is to be had in the boutique, where you’re likely to want everything else you see too. Or just swoon over Hong Henwood’s Insta feed.

If your look is classic, Nina Beale’s oh-so-tastefully curated showroom Bungalow 55 in Cluny Court is just the ticket. You’ll also find a lot of big, bold stripes for a coastal/Hamptons vibe – in chic navy and white, or black and white, of course. Cushions start at the $120 mark, and there’s plenty for print lovers too in lovely textures from crisp linens to lush velvets.

More boho vibes and the real deal (so better than Anthropologie), Zojora’s bright collection of cushions are handmade in India from vintage kantha fabric. Check out the double-sided, block-printed beauties too. If you value the unique, these pieces – starting from USD $20 – are real gems. They don’t come with a cushion insert, so do factor in an IKEA haul.

We’ve told you about Onlewo before, and if you still haven’t fallen in love with this local lifestyle label that pays homage to Singapore scenes via brilliant textile design, you need to head over to its Jalan Besar boutique stat. Or, for instant gratification, check out its online store. You’ll find cushion covers emblazoned with prints inspired by neighbourhoods such as Tiong Bahru and Little India, and motifs that evoke our very own Botanic Gardens, the geometry of HDBs and patterns inspired by kueh and Peranakan tiles.
