The Range Rover Electric is a modern marvel waiting to happen

Range Rover is in a class of its own in terms of the heritage luxury SUV market. Its desirability doesn’t seem to waver. This loyalty carries over to the highly anticipated Range Rover Electric, as well. The new vehicle looks to usher in a new era for the brand, even if it means the world has to wait a little.

“Across the globe, we’re seeing the highest levels of client demand in our 53-year history,” Range Rover Managing Director Geraldine Ingham says in a statement. “Its exemplary British design remains distinctive and unwavering, while its go-anywhere capability will ensure towing, wading and all-terrain technology surpass any other luxury electric SUV.”

Range Rover Electric is a testament to the SUV’s ingenious design. From seamless charging to energy partnerships to software-over-the-air updates and intelligent technology, the luxury carmaker hopes to maximise the range’s potential. Now, it invites enthusiasts and fellow forward-thinkers to see its latest reiteration by opening up the waiting list to the public.

The new Range Rover Electric is expected to require more patents than any other Range Rover in history. The SUV went through its most rigorous virtual and physical testing process, as well. Among its most important focuses is the front-end robustness and multi-body systems analysis, as well as wading capabilities that reach through 850mm deep water.

The electric drive system, in particular, is complemented by underfloor, battery durability, chassis integrity, and vehicle dynamics tests for thermal derating. Global on-road testing, on the other hand, has already begun in Sweden and Dubai, among others. These are meant to test temperatures, ranging from -40C to +50C. All these assure prospective buyers that the Range Rover Electric lives up to its proud name.

Borrowing from the flagship Range Rover V8 and its all-terrain capability, the all-new Range Rover Electric is also the quietest and most refined of the lineup yet. With an enhanced active road noise cancellation configuration and unique sound design, it hopes to set a new standard for the famed heritage SUV.

It will be joining the range alongside its mild hybrid [MHEV] and plug-in electric hybrid [PHEV] counterparts. It was built on the flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture in Solihull, United Kingdom before being transferred to JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. This marks a first for having batteries and electric drive units built and assembled at the plant. All these movements are part of Range Rover’s decision to electrify ahead of its 2039 net-zero carbon ambition.

“An electric luxury SUV that can deliver on the Range Rover promise,” Thomas Müller, Executive Director in Product Engineering, adds. “The magic ingredients that underpin the success of Range Rover remain unchanged: timeless, reductionist design, a serene cabin and go-anywhere capability – but now offered with zero tailpipe emissions.”
