The 2024 Porsche Taycan sets a new standard for the all-electric sports car

The Porsche Taycan wasted no time proving just how fast an all-electric sports car can get. It would become one of the most impressive behemoths in the market. So much so that it would triumph at the 2020 World Car of the Year Awards for World Luxury Car and World Performance Car of the Year. The Taycan combined dynamism and the signature Porsche speed with innovative technology. Its latest reiteration looks to do the same, only with less weight, more efficiency, and better acceleration.

Its shape and exterior, of course, does Porsche proud. The new Taycan maintains a clean, purist design, punctuated by new front wings, front- and rear-end styling, and the flatter headlights. Most notably, too, the headlights now feature high-resolution HD matrix technology with detailed optics. These allow the brand’s characteristic four-point graphics to be more prominent in the evening all the while emphasising the vehicles width.

One of the Taycan’s most important updates is the changes to its acceleration. The Taycan and Taycan Turbo S can reach the 100 km/h mark from a standstill position in just 4.8 seconds. This means that it accelerates 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. Apart from this, the new push-to-pass function in the Sport Chrono package boosts the vehicles up to 70 kW. The Taycan Turbo S even gets an additional 140 kW with Launch Control.

Its signature 21-inch wheels and tyres were also redeveloped for better efficiency and improved performance. With an advanced powertrain, the Taycan offers up to 80 kW more power than previous models. A modified pulse inverter with optimised software, revised thermal management, modified recuperation and all-wheel-drive strategy lead to better handling.

At less weight, the vehicle accommodates more extensive equipment, too. Elements such as the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager, new cooling system, ParkAssist, Drive Mode switch, and Power Steering Plus are all standard features. Complementing these are the adaptive air suspension and aluminum door sill protectors.

The new model line can also take on those longer trips with ease, doing so with more than 35 percent more range. Depending on the variant, the WLTP range has been increased to up to 678 km. The updated Taycan should require fewer changing stops, as well. These benefit from a battery with increased capacity but with a reduced weight. With 800-volt DC charging stations, these supercars can be charged at up to 320 kW.

“We ushered in the new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a game changer and innovative pioneer in the e-vehicle segment,” concludes Kevin Giek, head of the model line.”[The Taycan] has reached new heights in terms of performance, with exceptional driving dynamics and driving pleasure.”
