The Ralph Lauren Home Modern Driver Collection is a celebration of sculptural silhouettes

Introduced during the Milan Design Week, the Ralph Lauren Home Modern Driver Collection for Fall 2024 is rooted in modern automotive design. Lauren, after all, has one of the most extensive automobile collections ever assembled. Cars like he 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe, the 1929 Blower Bentley and the 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe are credited for inspiring the mogul’s design philosophy.

“I’ve always been inspired by things built for a purpose. The cars I’ve collected over the years have a kind of functional beauty. Most of them were hand-built and designed for speed,” Lauren says. “Every detail was meticulously considered and crafted. My ideas come from my life, my work, from everyday living. Cars have always been part of that.”

Debuted at Palazzo Ralph Lauren in Milan, Modern Driver is the first collection to fall under the new strategic collaboration between Ralph Lauren and Haworth Lifestyle Design. The brand, of course, is renowned in design, manufacturing and distribution of luxury furnishings.

Here, sleek, sculptural furnishings in handsome materials such as burl and mahogany wood, polished stainless steel and carbon fiber are paired with impeccable detailing of louvered mahogany and channeled leather. In the case of the iconic RL-CF1 chair at the heart of the collection, it gets reimagined, mimicking the characteristics of Lauren’s own McLaren F1 race car.

This version of the RL-CF1 chair features the same high-tech fiber that shapes Formula 1 race cars with 71 layers of tissue carbon laid by hand, forming a dramatic cantilevered frame. The same craftsmanship is applied to the RL-CF1 Dining Chair, which boasts the same burnished saddle leather upholstery as the Lounge Chair. Releases like the new Turner Nesting Tables, on the other hand, add a polished, masculine touch with their louvered mahogany and polished stainless-steel trim with nailhead detail.

Besides the silhouettes, handsome lighting is rendered in fine finishes like polished nickel, natural brass, and glass. One of them is the classic Beckford Table Lamp, inspired by the grilles of Lauren’s 1929 Blower Bentley. Newer designs like Langton Table Lamp and Waring Table Lamp are patterned after automotive engineering.

Meanwhile, the collection’s tailored linens and accessories are defined by a rich palette of chocolate, charcoal and black. The charcoal gray Blakeley Duvet and Standard Shams, as well as the Pierce Throw Pillow and black cashmere Ellerston European Sham and Bed Blanket especially bring the Modern Driver’s sophisticated vision to life.
