Franck Muller Long Island Evolution: Revamped expressions for the modern age

When Franck Muller’s Long Island watch first hit the market in 2000, it was revered for being a true homage to the Art Deco movement, with its curved rectangular case and rectilinear, arched numerals. It was a tasteful, innovative rendition of the Novecento style. More than two decades later, the renowned series gets reconfigured and revitalised with the Franck Muller Long Island Evolution.

The brand’s exclusive Long Island Evolution Asia-Pacific release comes in three unique expressions, namely the Master Jumper, the Giga Tourbillon and the 7 Day Power Reserve models. Each is its own kind of rare. There will only be 300 pieces of the Long Island Evolution 7 Days Power Reserve, 100 of the Long Island Evolution Master Jumper and eight of the Long Island Evolution Giga Tourbillon, respectively.

The design of the Long Island case has been modernised, albeit retaining the silhouette of the classic. In the inner case, wearers will likely first notice the anodised aluminum dressed in a beautiful pine green colour.

For the first time ever, an inner sapphire crystal has also been integrated at the inner bezel level, allowing for more mechanical depth to the watches. This is juxtaposed with the titanium outer case has a black PVD treatment. Tying all these together is the alligator leather straps in matte black featuring contrast stitching and edges in the same pine green shade.

In terms of construction, Franck Muller added another layer of shock protection and security to the shaped movement, present in all three renditions. Each model, of course, has its own distinct flair.

The Master Jumper makes use of a new vertical and equidistant jumping display, featuring three windows arranged in a column down the middle of the watch case. Meanwhile, the large tourbillon cage (featuring an oversized 20-mm behemoth of a cage) of the Long Island Evolution Giga Tourbillon proves to be quite the stunner even from afar.

Rounding out the collection is the third three-hand model equipped with our hand-wound FM 1745 calibre in a fully skeletonised design, culminating in the Long Island Evolution 7 Days Power Reserve. All three watches are masterclasses in Franck Muller’s technical and aesthetic prowess. Some fitting tributes indeed.
