Breguet’s Reine de Naples 8925 Valentine’s Day Edition is rooted in romance and royalty

There’s a certain poetic touch that characterises Breguet’s Reine de Naples. It’s a collection rooted in royalty, a historic piece first designed for the Queen of Naples, Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister, Caroline Murat. This watch is a cornerstone of femininity and refinement. Throughout her lifetime, Murat would come to own more than 30 Breguet watches and clocks herself and this was the collection that stared it all.

While the shape of its dial and straps have changed, the spirit of Breguet’s Reine de Naples remains. The new Reine de Naples 8925 Valentine’s Day Edition adds a new wrinkle to the collection’s lineage. This interpretation is a celebration of love and passion, adorned in rubies, diamonds, and more.

Scattered across the white mother-of-pearl dial, most notably, are the red accents. The flange is set with 66 hand-set rubies, which seamlessly go together with the diamond-studded bezel and crown. Several discreet red hearts accentuate the hours on an offset chapter ring. Following the hours and minutes is a beautiful alligator leather strap and a clasp that features elaborate hand-set diamond work.

The difference in centuries, fortunately, hasn’t taken away the blend of mechanics in this feminine facade. At the heart of the new Reine de Naples 8925 Valentine’s Day Edition 33-mm egg-shaped case is a sophisticated 86/1 self-winding movement, backed by a 38-hour power reserve and 3 Hz frequency.

Meanwhile, the sapphire crystal back of the white gold case reveals the limited-edition timepiece’s platinum oscillating weight. Seen more closely here is the Côtes de Genève decoration and bevelling on the mechanism. The wearer also enjoys a calibre equipped with an elegant combination of material, silicon and other properties. It is as brilliant as it is resistant. Each element is meticulously hand-finished in the Breguet tradition.

The Reine de Naples 8925 Valentine’s Day Edition honours the vision clockmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet had when he was commissioned by the queen in 1810. With Murat’s bold and avant-garde order, Breguet wound up creating the first wristwatch. This would lead to an oblong-shaped artefact of the most regal order, featuring a thermometer and a strap made of hair and gold thread.

While the designs would undergo various innovations between 1849 and 1855, each would follow the other models in the Reine de Naples line. These watches are described to be singing “anthems of praise to femininity.” And this edition, with only 28 pieces around the world, is no different, albeit, of course, a much more romantic twist.
