Breguet’s Reine de Naples 8918 is a grand ode to femininity
When Caroline Murat, Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister, imagined Breguet’s first wristwatch in 1810, she had Abraham-Louis Breguet create a timepiece worthy of her pedigree. Thus, the introduction of a series that would culminate in the world-famous Reine de Naples line. In honor of Women’s Month, Breguet debuts a fresh new silhouette in the 8918.
Embracing a palette of soft colours of pink, grey and white, the Reine de Naples collection welcomes this remarkable timepiece in mint green, a colour meant to symbolise hope. Its complemented by a mother-of-pearl dial and sparkling chapter ring made using a distinct snow-setting technique.
The layered shades of green give off a two-dimensional feel to the Arabic numerals, which goes well with the pear-shaped diamond placed at 6 o’clock. The watch’s unique logo is placed in between the numbers 11 and 12, a homage to Breguet’s early designs.
Suffusing the dial with a more luminous glow, the inner flange and bezel are adorned with 117 diamonds. It is then finished with an alligator leather strap, fashioned by a folding clasp embellished with 28 more brilliant-cut diamonds.
The design of this fascinating timepiece blends perfectly with its mechanics. It is equipped with a 191-component, 537/3 self-winding movement and a 45-hour power reserve, which are incased in an ovoid case. Its tribute to women is not only seen in its meticulous design, but in the brilliant materials used for its resistance to corrosion and wear.
Like all the other Reine de Naples pieces, this lovely timepiece also has the sapphire crystal back of the white gold case. It reveals the timepiece’s platinum weight, as well as the Côtes de Genève decoration. Even in the modern world, the Reine de Naples line practically embodies Murat in a sense. It’s a fitting tribute to the women trendsetters of yesteryear.
