The 2024 Maserati GranCabrio is the GranTurismo’s stylish soft-top twin

From the initial looks of those familiar contours, the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio can easily be mistaken for the GranTurismo, if not for that gorgeous drop top. Maserati prefers it that way, of course. Much like its twin, the GranCabrio emphasises a “balance of opposites,” honoring classic proportions while maintaining impeccable mechanics and functionality.

The GranCabrio bears the weight of a history that’s 60 years in the making. It’s a reference to the convertible variant of Maserati’s first road-going sports car, the 3500 GT, first unveiled at the 1959 Geneva Motor Show. Positioned as a pillar of “Italian styling,” the drop-top supercar even comes with the proper thermal and acoustic capacities to complement the ride and the roaring sound of that mean engine.

Maserati hoped to create an open-air driving experience that exhibits that signature supercar acceleration and aerodynamism. Possessing a standard all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission, the Maserati GranCabrio comes in the more robust Trofeo trim. A Folgore version has yet to be announced.

The convertible enjoys a powerful 542-hp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V-6 engine and is fairly capable of reaching 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. This type of production is directly lifted from the Nettuno engine in the MC20. After all, it’s an icon of performance and efficiency among those in the Trident range, derived from only the best of F1 tech.

Coming in five distinct colours, the light fabric roof can be tucked away in just 14 seconds while moving at a pace of 50 km/h. Best of all, it can be operated with one touch of a button from the central display. There’s also a neck warmer, a feature that Maserati says will ensure optimal level of comfort for the driver and passenger amidst the intensity of the speed.

A wind stopper can also be added if drivers are looking to reduce the formation of turbulence inside the cabin. It’s Maserati’s small way of elevating the pleasure of having the ultimate accomplice on the open road.
