Riviera celebrates its latest milestone with a custom Iridium silver-hulled 5400 sport yacht

For more than four decades, the contours of Riviera’s yachts have been heralded for their timeless beauty. And at its most recent milestone, the Maison would highlight its design evolution with the launch of the Australian motoryacht manufacturer’s 6,000th motor yacht at its world class production facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The new 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition release would go to some of Riviera’s most loyal owners, Sydney-based Peter and Denise Haig. The two have been proud owners of 10 Riviera yachts, their first being the 38 Open Flybridge in 1988. For the newest addition to their collection, they opted for a bespoke Iridium silver-hulled 5400 yacht, the same colour as Peter Haig’s beloved Mercedes.

“One of the most important points for me is that Riviera is totally Australian,” Haig said of the feat. “We are proud that we own a world-class motor yacht that has been designed and built by brilliant and dedicated local craftspeople.”

In 2005, Riviera successfully launched more than 800 sports yachts and to this day continues to produce at least 150 yachts per year. Of all these boats in circulation, about 60% are exported around the world.

Built by 950 individuals, the 5400 Sport Yacht launch event would highlight the efforts of each member of the team, all of whom had been present during the commemoration.

Measuring an overall length of 17.46m, with a hull length of 15.93m and a beam of 4.88m, the Riviera 5400 stands as a fresh, world-class boat that enjoys a more modern, sportier design. It features top-of-the-line finishes, with exterior colour options of silver, black and white. The helm station is noticeably on the same level as the interior living areas, allowing for additional space. Also seen here, of course, is the iconic Riviera Platinum Silver hardtop.

Complementing the 5400’s sleek aesthetic appeal are two Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950 engines, allowing for a natural cruising speed of 24kn to 26kn and a top speed of 35kn. The Volvo Penta IPS systems provide the vessel with enviable control and manoeuvrability at all times.

“This historic event reinforces Riviera’s reputation as one of the most sought-after motor yachts in the world,” Riviera Australia Owner Rodney Longhurst said during the launch. “I couldn’t be more proud of our team, and I am grateful to all the Riviera owners around the world who not only enjoy our yachts themselves but share this wonderful experience with their family and friends.”
