Christian Grande tackles the avant-garde in sailing with the Rebel 50 G
By Bryle B. Suralta
“The Rebel 50 G is aware of its own being and expressiveness,” Italian designer Christian Grande says of his latest feat, “with an almost zoomorphic body, with features that create muscular-looking surfaces that immediately give off a feeling of power.”
Made in collaboration with Italian shipyard Sacs Tecnorib, the Rebel 50 G is described as a “revolutionary model.” The yacht positions itself between the classic rib market and the open boat market, which means it operates in an entirely different category. And at first glance, this sumptuous 50-footer seems to understand its raison d’etre: to become an iconoclast at sea.
Grande’s spirit of innovation is imprinted all over the yacht. It possesses a distinctive contemporary touch, highlighted by the yacht’s tapered foam profiles. One of the Rebel 50 G’s most discernible features may well be its consuming glass panel that creates this enclosed and protected space.
Powerful yet softly curved, the panel is meant to convey a sense of continuity between the deck and the outside environment. Complementing this is the two side windows that show the functionality of the area, allowing for comfortable settings under even the harshest weather conditions.
One might also notice the special hull window, with a portion of its glass designed to seem deliberately suspended in the air. Grande says that it should signal an enthralling floating sensation.
Furnishings, on the other hand, are made with Ceppo di Gre’ marble, which can be quite unusual on a 50-foot yacht. Nevertheless, the interesting choice would give the yacht this strong physical presence characterised by natural elements. The porous natural stone offers the build a refined grey-blue hue indicative of an elegant, unostentatious atmosphere.
“Sculpted geometries that must be an expression of power and endurance,” the Italian designer added. “It is no coincidence that the first model has a brand new colour, called Stingray, which vibrates between grey and powdery tones.”
The designer hoped to reinterpret the configuration, too. To him, “relaxation and conviviality” were the two words that echoed throughout the design process. Furniture elements akin to home design items adorn the living area, punctuated by deep cockpit sofas.
This extends to the walkaround, too. The large stern and bow sundecks further enhance the very convivial nature of the structure. At its core is the romantic large sundeck, accompanied by a chaise lounge that makes it ideal for passengers’ viewing pleasure.
There are two possible layouts prospective buyers can choose from here. The first has two cabins, one for the master’s and one for the VIP cabin amidships. Meanwhile, the second, aptly called “Living,” offers a more casual appeal. This is defined by cosy living room with long sofas, a table, and a reliable bar cabinet. In any case, both should make for a more than suitable companion on the voyage.
