Maserati introduces the special-edition MC20 Icona and Leggenda on the MC12’s 20th championship anniversary
Maserati’s iconic MC12 is a classic for a reason. It was the sports car that won Maserati’s GT championship in 2004, 37 years after stepping away from the racing scene. The MC12 would take home 27 victories, becoming one of Maserati’s most ambitious cars ever.
Two decades later, it would be the source of inspiration for the MC20 special series. Each limited to just 20 units, the MC20 Icona and Leggenda are a testament to Maserati’s commitment to timeless design and engineering prowess.
Lifted from the styling cues of the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone respectively, both are equipped with Maserati’s ground-breaking and innovative V6 Nettuno engine. This, in turn, delivers exhilarating acceleration and impressive power output. This engine, coupled with advanced aerodynamics and a lightweight carbon fibre construction, results in a driving experience that is as dynamic as it is refined.
The MC20 Icona’s special livery brings to fans’ minds the MC12 Stradale, having the colours of Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery. In addition, the Maserati Fuoriserie logo stands out on the side, with the Italian flag logo positioned on the door under the MC20 lettering.
On the other hand, the MC20 Leggenda features bespoke styling that echoes Maserati’s racing triumphs in the MC12 GT1. This includs unique exterior accents and exclusive colour options in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte.
The Leggenda’s performance credentials are equally impressive. It has the same high-performance engine as the Icona, which delivers exceptional power and agility on demand. Its interiors, meanwhile, hold that of a super sports car with a racing-inspired seat and state-of-the-art instrumentation, providing optimal and advanced controls.
These two MC20 models hold a distinctive aesthetic appeal. They share sophisticated Sonus faber sound system, as well. Both also feature a luxe carbon fibre interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind stop and rear cross path systems and finally, mats in the front and in the boot. The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, of all things epitomises the Marque’s sporty spirit and its penchant for innovative tech.
