The Macallan Time : Space Mastery pays tribute to past whisky makers

The Macallan celebrates its 200 years of legacy with an all-new expression that pays tribute to its past whisky makers. This is the Time : Space Mastery, a unique whisky made from the diverse inventory of the most exceptional oak casks.

The whisky honours The Macallan’s 14 exceptional cask types, all blended together to create layers of complexity. Lead whisky maker Euan Kennedy made use of European and American Oak sherry-seasoned casks, as well as American Oak Bourbon casks, and the finest refill casks that give a great depth of aroma, texture and flavour to the expression.

“Inspired by past masters, we have explored the full extent of our warehouses to capture the complex influences of cask seasoning, oak origin, cask size and distillery character in one incredibly special bottle of whisky – with the elegance provided by European Oak sitting at its heart,” says Kennedy.

At the nose, the expression gives off a distinct and sumptuous aroma of Medjool dates and rich milk chocolate, combined with tropical characters of dried mango and ripe papaya. Then on the first sip, the sweetness from the sherry-soaked dried fruits, orange marmalade and honeycomb coat the palate. This is balanced with the complexity from the soft spiced notes of ginger and cinnamon. Finishing the experience are the lingering and bursting flavours of caramelised pineapple and creamy vanilla, with the exquisite balance of subtle dark chocolate and coffee.

The Time : Space Mastery is housed in The Macallan bespoke circular vessel that symbolises the circle of life and the ongoing journey from the distillery’s past to the future. Its presentation case, on the other hand, bursts to life with a vibrant red colour and 200 spikes to represent the brand’s bicentennial year.
