The Bugatti W16 Mistral opens a new chapter in unmatched roadster legacy
For over a century, Bugatti has bestowed the world with some of its amazing roadsters ever created. This includes the Type 40 A, the Type 41 Roadster Esders, the Type 55 Roadster and the iconic Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid Gangloff. To add to its already impressive lineup is the W16 Mistral, which sets a new benchmark for Bugatti’s open-top performance icons.
The W16 Mistral is compelling and significant in so many levels. This is, after all, Bugatti’s first ever roadster after the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse premiered in 2012.
The roadster takes on the excellent performance and aesthetic appeal of a Chiron, but with so much more to offer thanks to its 1,600 PS 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine. The engine allows for a top speed of 420 km/h, surpassing the Veyron’s world speed record of just 408.84 km/h and making it the fastest Bugatti roadster yet.
While the Marque’s goal is to create an impressive performance out of the W16 Mistral, it also did not hold back in creating safety measures for an open-top car. Its monocoque was reshaped into a more rounded structure, to minimise impact in an event of a crash. The doors also feature an innovative architectural arrangement, which allows them to absorb an exceptional amount of energy in case of a side impact, thus keeping the driver and passenger safe and secure.
Meanwhile, Bugatti also developed innovative ram induction air scoops located behind the headrests. These are made from a bespoke carbon fibre structure that can support the whole weight of the car in case of a roll over.
Within the interior, the roadster’s door panels feature intricate woven leather, which were meticulously produced to the highest quality standards. On the other hand, the gear shifter features an homage to Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous ‘dancing elephant’ sculpture in the iconic Type 41 Royale.
The cabin also comes with a high-end sound system, specifically used for the roadster, which enables a pleasurable listening experience, even when the open-top car embarks on a scintillating high-speed adventure.
