Breguet’s Marine Chronograph 5529 and 9518 take inspiration from the open seas

From the guilloché dials to those blue pomme hands, Breguet’s horological contributions often get overlooked, except for, say, the watchful eyes of aficionados. The watchmaker to the French Royal Navy typifies a traditional sophistication often lost to modern horology.

In the case of its latest additions to its Marine collection, Breguet’s ingenuity and exceptional finishing shines through. The Marine Chronograph 5529 and 9518 are inspired mostly by the rhythm and textures in the open seas, from waves crashing against rocks to the sunshine glitter of blue waters. The first features a classic sunburst blue dial while the other comes in a silver-toned dial hinting. Diamonds, on the other hand, adorn the markers and the bezels.

Breguet Marine 5529

Crafted to suit modern-day sporting enthusiasts, the Marine Chronograph 5529 is inspired by the thrill of the sail. It boasts an advanced technology to cater to athletic activities, blurring the lines between a classic timepiece and functional design. Adhering to the open sea motif, this remarkable number (available in white and rose gold) boasts a deep blue dial with wave accents. The ocean-like abyss in the middle is lit up with eight baguette-cut diamonds that represents the hours.

It is also complemented with luminescent Roman numerals and Breguet’s signature apple-topped hands. What makes this timepiece, in particular, such a standout are the three chronographs representing the 30-minute, 12-hour and 60-second counters. Baguette-cut diamonds are then perfectly placed on the bezel.

Featuring a gold cap which portrays a ship’s wheel, these versions are available in a midnight blue leather or rubber strap. As with other Breguet timepieces, the Marine 5529 boasts horological ingenuity through its movement. Meanwhile, the 42.3-mm case houses a 582 QA mechanical self-winding movement with 346 components, all seen through a sapphire crystal case back.

It’s also equipped with a high-precision caliber, providing a 48-hour power reserve and is water-resistant for up to 30 metres. The piece perfectly encapsulates the prestige of one of the brand’s emblematic collections.
