Rimowa’s collaboration with Rick Owens is a fusion of avant-garde fashion and function
Rimowa is synonymous with elevated travel, and for good reason. As one of the oldest German luggage brands, it has spent 125 years reshaping the industry. Throughout its history, the Maison has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, including Supreme, Fendi, Off-White™, Moncler and now, with Paris-based designer Rick Owens.
Rick Owens is an American-born fashion designer who made his mark on the industry by blending the rebelliousness of punk aesthetics with the elegance of haute couture. His groundbreaking collections made from leather, fur, flax and even metal has earned him the title of ’The Lord of Darkness’.
In this collaboration, Rimowa incorporates the designer’s gothic aesthetic into the Original Cabin Bronze Suitcase. It features a unique patinated aluminium finish created using a manual pigment application process, which results in an aged look and ensures that no two suitcases are exactly alike.
Of course, the German Maison highlighted Owens’ signature style by fully reimagining the interior in leather, from the lining to the Rimowa Flex Dividers.
The exclusive collection of just 500 pieces also includes a luggage tag made from genuine hair-on cowskin. Rick Owens developed and produced all the materials used, further underscoring the craftsmanship shared between the two brands.
Finally, the brands kept the logos discreet in the suitcase’s design. Rick Owens’ branding appears on the exterior logo badge alongside Rimowa’s. Both logos are also embossed on a leather label inside and on the leather straps.
