Reshaping the flagship Y Class: The new Princess Y85 has arrived
The Princess’s updated Y Class range signaled a shift in the shipbuilder’s direction. These yachts enjoy much more space, with their full-beam master suites, generous lounge areas, cockpits that serve as private lounges, as well as their extended hulls. With the new line also comes the brand’s revamped signature glass design that encapsulates its forward-thinking contemporary aesthetic.
This extends to the Princess Y85, as well. It recently joined award-winning yachts like the Princess Y72, Y78 and Y95 in the collection. The yacht offers the latest innovations in the coveted flagship line, highlighted by a striking and elongated visual appearance that welcomes a new era for Princess’s new Y Class styling.
Measuring 85 feet in length and with a beam of about 20 feet, the Y85’s look is credited to Princess Design Studio’s collaboration with Bernard Olesinski and Pininfarina. The glazing that sweeps through the full-length of the hull, together with the division of the wheelhouse and saloon window line, give the flybridge a certain lush, airy quality to even before coming aboard.
Of all things, it is the flybridge’s size and volume are what put it over the top. This vessel is designed to accommodate larger groups. Hence, the continuity between the generous dining area, wet bar, large aft sun pad and the lounge. Owners also have the option to reconfigure the yacht with a tender and crane. The boat’s fully capped teak staircases tie them all together.
The main deck is customisable, as well. A sliding door and electronic divider can easily transform the galley into a private enclosed lounge. Below, there are four spacious, light-filled cabins complete with luxe fixtures and materials. The master stateroom, in particular, even comes with an ensuite and dressing room.
Its sun pad can even be swapped in for a spa bath and another living space, adding to the already extensive entertaining deck. In the case of the ‘infinity’ cockpit’s layout, it, too, can be elevated by a central table and furniture that can seat up to eight guests.
And it only takes an electrical sliding mechanism to bring it all together to create an al fresco hall. Framing the views of the seas and the bathing platform, on the other hand, is the Y85’s beautiful glazed transom.
Delivering top speed of 31 kn, the two Man diesel engines (which can either be in the 800 mhp or 1900 mhp variants) power the high-performance cruiser. As it stands, the vessel is recorded in the top 30 percentile in terms of speed in its segment.
