The Apanage Brut 1874: A tribute to the 150th anniversary of Madame Pommery’s Brut
In 2024, Champagne Pommery celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Brut by Madame Pommery. This exceptional champagne is the first vintage of its kind, created in 1874 by cellar master Victor Lambert, and helped propel the French Maison’s oenological success. Today, Champagne Pommery releases the Apanage Brut 1874 to commemorate this significant milestone.
The cuvée is a bold and modern interpretation of Brut, matured for 48 months in the chalk pits of Butte Saint-Nicaise. Crafted by the 10th cellar master Clément Pierlot, it features a blend of Pommery’s exceptional vintages, primarily the superb 2018. It also features a delicate touch of the 2015 and 2012 vintages, enhancing its originality.
The Apanage Brut 1874 features a pale-yellow hue, with beautiful hints of gold and fine, delicate bubbles. It warms the nose with an aroma of white flowers, with hawthorn and jasmine. Subtle notes of ripe citrus fruits are also combined with more complex aromas from toasty flavours of acacia honey, marshmallow and brioche.
The champagne coats the palate with a smooth, delicate and velvety texture, opened by notes of white nectarines and balanced by the freshness and the natural minerality of the French region from which it is made. The finish is full-bodied and long-lasting, enhanced by notes of citrus zest, completing the depth of flavours.
“The release of Apanage Brut 1874 honours the rich history of Maison Pommery, whilst looking boldly to
the future,” says Pierlot. “Apanage 1874 encapsulates the essence of Pommery – crafted with the finest terroirs and designed for those who appreciate the artistry of champagne, ready to enhance the most exquisite dining experiences worldwide.”
