A look at Molteni&C’s most celebrated hotel design collaborations

As an Italian heritage brand, Molteni&C’s pursuit of exceptional design has led to some key collaborations with titans like Angelo Mangiarotti, Tito Agnoli and Luca Meda. The Italian furniture maker, after all, has always sought out creative partnerships that exercise its artisanal vision and legacy of craftsmanship.

The Compasso D’Oro awardee’s work in the hospitality industry is no different. From the Sorrento Peninsula to the Southern Uruguay coast, these sumptuous hotels boast some of Molteni&C’s greatest design triumphs.

Ara Maris: The gem in Sorrento

Situated at the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula, Ara Maris’s hotel design is distinct because of how it juxtaposes cool blue tones with earthy elements. This is most evident in the five-star hotel’s sea-blue majolica tiles, a feature that mimics the colours of the sea.

Molteni&C worked with the hotel by adding exclusive furnishings to further elevate the spaces. For its part, the brand took care of the wall units and coverings in the public areas, reception, lobby, restaurant and bar.

Arguably its most important work is that legendary bookcase, which separates the reception area from the zone of transit. Made with a unique combination of wood and metal, the structure of the bookcase itself is sculptural, with its series of arches, alternating voids and solids to offer glimpses of the rooms and views of the inner garden.

Apart from this, Molteni&C lent a couple of its most endearing pieces, including the Louisa and Regent coffee tables, the Cleo sofa and the Walter armchairs, to the hotel’s rooms. Ignazio Gardella’s Blevio table from the Heritage Collection is integrated seamlessly, as well.

Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio: A 19th-century heritage icon

The historic Palazzo Venezia is the crown jewel of the Generali heritage. For this collaboration, Molteni&C paid homage to the Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio at the heart of the building by adding furniture that reflect the interior’s eclectic style.

Molteni&C’s contemporary custom furnishings and fittings can be found across the hotel’s spa, meeting rooms, gym, restaurant and lobby bar, reception, as well as walls and corridors. Guests are treated to Molteni&C custom panellings, sliding doors, decorative paintings and bespoke furniture pieces, which adorn each of the 84 private rooms and suites.

Interestingly, Palazzo Venezia even houses pieces like the Gio Ponti-designed D.151.4 and D.154.2 from Molteni&C’s Heritage Collection.

The Rock: On the edge of the Atlantic Coast

The Rock in Punta del Este, Uruguay is a beautiful resort that boasts panoramic views of the Atlantic coastline. Its dramatic views have made it an ideal luxury summer destination for years.

Within the tropical getaway are 25 residences and three ultra-luxury penthouses, all provided with exclusive, tailor-made systems by Molteni&C. This, of course, includes the Hi-Line 6 model kitchen and Vincent Van Duysen’s signature Gliss Master walk-in wardrobe system.

This hotel also features pieces from Molteni&C’s indoor and outdoor collections. Most notably, the Palinfransca sofa was chosen for how it complements the architecture of the resort.
