McLaren W1: The fastest-accelerating and fast-lapping road-legal supercar yet

The new McLaren W1 is the marque’s latest creation that surpasses the groundbreaking achievement created by its F1 and P1™ successors. It integrates both the comfort of a hybrid car on road, as well as the impressive performance of a supercar on track, thanks its cutting-edge aerodynamic structure and all-new V8 engine.

The new MHP-8 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that debuts in the McLaren W1 is paired with a power-dense E-module to deliver impressive speed. When the 928 PS of the V8 engine is combined with the 347PS of the E-module, it produces a total of 1,275 PS that gives the supercar the highest power output in its class.

This amount of power together with a total torque of 1,340 Nm and the E-module’s instant throttle response allows the W1 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds. It also allows the supercar to reach a maximum speed of 350 km/h. This impressive performance beat the McLaren Senna’s record by just 3 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating road-legal McLaren yet.

On the other hand, the supercar can also be driven in pure EV mode for up to 2 km thanks to the E-module’s 1.384 kW battery that delivers almost double the electric power of McLaren’s P1™, but also 40 kg lighter in weight.

To help with its aerodynamic performance, McLaren engineered the W1 with bespoke carbon fibre structures and Aerocell monocoque, which is shaped to facilitate full ground effect aerodynamics. It also added aerodynamic surfaces, such as the intakes around the lights and upper wheelarches with a large single nostril at the centre of the bonnet. Additionally, the rear features an aerodynamic blade that reveals the EVSE charging port when lifted.

The supercar exclusively features shape-shifting aerodynamic technologies whenever the Race mode is activated, enabling it to lower its ride height and deploy the active front and rear wings. It also features McLaren’s first-ever Anhedral doors that not only adds to its aesthetic appeal, but also allows for optimisation of airflow from the front wheel arches into the high temperature radiators.

Inside the W1, the seating is uniquely integrated into the Aerocell monocoque and perfectly upholstered to provide utmost comfort to passengers. Additionally, the supercar features two buttons on the steering wheel for Boost and McLaren Aero Deployment controls.

It also has a digital rearview display provided with overhead start/stop, gear selection, Race mode switchgear and window controls, as well as an 8-inch touch screen McLaren Infotainment System located between the driver and passenger to provide easy-access of controls for drivers.

For ultimate configurations, McLaren offers its bespoke personalisation programme, McLaren Special Operations. This allows owners to freely customise their W1 using a range of luxury and innovative interior materials, including the world-first use of the McLaren InnoKnit, a flexible and lightweight material that can be integrated into the car’s interior surfaces.
