The arrival of the Emeya: Lotus finally introduces its first all-electric GT
Following the successful debuts of the Eletre and Evija, inquiries from long-time enthusiasts and collector persisted about the arrival of Lotus’ electrified version of a grand tourer (GT). Those questions are finally answered with the introduction of the Emeya, the British carmaker’s first purely electric GT. With it comes a ‘driver-focused’ supercar that challenges conventional notions.
Lotus opted for a more sustainable approach to the Emeya’s construction. To reduce its carbon footprint, the GT would make use of Wyron Truecycle, a new luxury thread made from repurposed fibres from the fashion industry. Lotus actually became the first automaker to utilise such. Its exterior, likewise, features carbon fibre elements lifted from the usual materials observed in the Marque’s racing heritage.
Inside the GT, on the other hand, is an advanced infotainment system plus an expansive 55-inch head-up display for drivers. The former is an interactive 3D display with multiple functions (a touch of the screen, for instance, opens the car doors), powered by Unreal Engine gaming technology. Meanwhile, the latter grants them numerous enables them to see the car’s data live without ever taking their eyes off the road.
Performance-wise, it remains one of the fastest GTs around. Powered by a dual motor with 450 kW / 603 bhp EV technology, the Emeya can easily reach 905 bhp, going form 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and 0-200 km/h in just 9 seconds. It also has active aerodynamic features, which delivers a downforce of over 150 kg.
This makes it all the more lightweight and helps with acceleration. The GT was also built with an active front grille, rear diffuser and a rear spoiler to make it all the more efficient in terms of acceleration. Combined with a low centre of gravity, the features ensure better stability and handling.
“Emeya is the sportscar for everyday use,” said Gavan Kershaw, Director of Attributes and Product Integrity at Lotus. “Our world-class engineering brings drivers dynamic handling and a comfortable ride, with plenty of space, making it a truly exciting electric vehicle to drive.”
The Emeya comes in three variations: the Emeya, Emeya S and the top-of-the-line Emeya R. For more information, visit Lotus Cars.
