The House of Suntory’s new Hibiki Artist Collaboration is a celebration of Japanese art and whisky making

This year, the House of Suntory unveils a rare collaboration that bridges two of Japan’s most celebrated art forms—whisky and painting. In partnership with acclaimed artist Hiroshi Senju, the brand introduces limited-edition expressions of its iconic blended whiskies, Hibiki 21 Years Old Artist Collaboration and Hibiki 30 Years Old Artist Collaboration. To mark the launch, the House of Suntory will host an exclusive event on 20 November at Margaret, Neil Perry’s acclaimed Sydney restaurant.

Senju, best known for his tranquil waterfall paintings, brings a refined artistic touch to the design of these collector’s editions. Each bottle and display pays homage to traditional Japanese craftsmanship and natural beauty, reflecting elements such as cascading water and byōbu—the elegant folding screens found in classic Japanese interiors.

The Hibiki 21 Years Old presents a deeply layered flavour profile, opening with notes of honeycomb, sandalwood and dried apricot, enriched by the gentle influence of Mizunara oak. Senju’s waterfall motif adorns both the label and the presentation box, capturing the sense of movement and serenity that defines his art.

The Hibiki 30 Years Old offers a richer, more decadent expression, with flavours of brown sugar, dried fig, gingerbread and apricot jam. The bottle is encased in a byōbu-inspired display, complete with multi-panel screens, a reflective base, an etched Hibiki emblem and a waterfall design that wraps elegantly around the crystal neck.

At the heart of the collaboration lies Senju’s new large-scale painting, “Waterfall on Colours ‘Hibiki‘”. Composed of ten shades of purple cascading across the canvas, the work symbolises both the noble heritage of Hibiki and Senju’s approach to depicting nature through art.

The launch event in Sydney will explore the journey of Hibiki through the perspective of Shinji Fukuyo, the House of Suntory’s fifth-generation Chief Blender, who will share his insights into the delicate craft of whisky blending.

Guests will also enjoy four Hibiki cocktails crafted by brand ambassador and award-winning bartender Natalie Ng, each paired with a four-course menu designed to complement the whiskies’ unique profiles. As a final gesture, attendees will receive a parting gift—a bottle of the Hibiki Japanese Harmony.

Both the Hibiki 21 Years Old and Hibiki 30 Years Old are bottled at 43 per cent ABV and will be available worldwide from 23 October, retailing at AUD $1,800 and AUD $14,000 respectively. Collectors can find the limited-edition expressions at Kent Street Cellars, the exclusive stockist for the release.
