Grand Prix de la Haute Joaillerie

Inside the inaugural Grand Prix de la Haute Joaillerie, from exceptional savoir-faire to a sport-inspired highlight

Beneath the sparkling chandeliers of the Salle des Étoiles in Monaco, the Grand Prix de la Haute Joaillerie (GPHJ) made its debut, bringing together the world’s most prestigious high jewellery maisons to showcase their remarkable pieces in front of an independent international jury—which is composed of industry leaders from gemmology to architecture and fashion. Among these houses were Boucheron, Bulgari, Chopard, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Messika, Tiffany & Co., Buccellati, Anna Hu and Dolce & Gabbana.

Designed as the jewellery counterpart of the prestigious watchmaking awards, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the GPHJ presented eight awards that embody exceptional creativity and outstanding craftsmanship in jewellery making.

Among the awards was the Best Piece of the Year, presented to Chanel’s Prestige necklace in white gold and platinum, from the Sport Collection—the sole sport-inspired creation in the lineup. Rather than echoing the familiar pendant-style sports necklaces, Chanel reimagines the form of a sweatshirt and sportswear drawstrings, not with cotton but with rare gemstones. Diamonds trace the rope-inspired lines, onyx elements reference the aglets, and 11 emerald-cut emeralds, totalling 37.18 carats, introduce a striking contrast of colour.

The Savoir-Faire Prize is another award presented during the event, given to Dior Joaillerie for its Diorexquis Forêt Nacrée necklace—a nature-inspired piece created by the maison’s artistic director Victoire de Castellane. This necklace highlights different gemstones arranged to mimic the shape of different flora and fauna—such as fawns, birds, butterflies, birds and rabbits. Set against an iridescent mother-of-pearl background reminiscent of a luminous sky, the necklace is crafted in white gold and finished with an oval-cut diamond pendant.

The GPHJ marked a new chapter in the jewellery world, providing a dedicated platform that celebrates the craft, imagination and technical mastery behind each maison’s remarkable creations.
