Chaumet Bamboo: High jewellery meets art and cultural heritage
Chaumet’s latest High Jewellery capsule collection ‘Bamboo’ is more than just an ode to nature—it’s a testament to the French jeweller’s 240-year legacy and unparalleled savoir-faire. This highly curated 10-piece capsule collection draws inspiration from Asia, in particular the bamboo motif.
Bamboo has rarely appeared in the Maison’s archival designs, except for two sketches during the era of Jean-Baptiste Fossin, one of Chaumet’s most influential designers and a pivotal figure in the house’s history.
Leading the Maison in the early 19th century, Fossin was known for his exquisite craftsmanship and deep appreciation for naturalistic motifs. His work often featured intricate interpretations of flora and fauna, including two historical sketches from 1840 to 1850 where bamboo appeared alongside resting birds and branches of other tree species – capturing the essence of the natural world that remains a cornerstone of Chaumet’s design philosophy.

This year, Chaumet’s skillful jewellers have crafted ten exceptional pieces for the High Jewellery collection, presenting a unique reinterpretation of nature.
One standout piece in the collection is the ‘Bib Necklace’, which features hand-engraved gold leaves and stems, designed to emulate the natural suppleness of bamboo. A 13.19-carat black Australian opal sits at its centre, complemented by vibrant tsavorite garnets and brilliant-cut diamonds. The necklace is also in a plunging ‘V’ shape, which has become a signature shape in Chaumet’s repertoire.
The contrast-rich palette also comes to life in three striking brooches – one of which transforms into a hair ornament – and three distinct rings, each showcasing different craftsmanship techniques.

The first ring is crowned with a 7.24-carat cushion-cut tsavorite garnet, while the second offers a fresh take on the classic toi et moi motif – a style featuring two gemstones side by side – where the garnet’s vivid intensity mirrors the opal’s fiery flashes. Emphasising the collection’s signature slender silhouette, the third ring wraps elegantly around the finger with refined grace.
Chaumet has been renowned for its tiara-making expertise since the early 19th century, crafting headpieces that have adorned royalty and high society for generations. This legacy continues with the collection’s striking tiara, a piece that exemplifies the Maison’s goldsmithing excellence and dedication to preserving its heritage. Blending abstract design with meticulous artistry, the tiara features hand-engraved gold foliage that conveys a sense of grace and fluidity, evoking the natural elegance and resilience of bamboo.
