The next-generation BMW M5 brings the iconic high-performance sedan into the electric age

When BMW first came out with the M5 in 1984, the marque signaled a shift in the luxury sedan market. It would push the boundaries of high-performance sedans all together. As the brand evolved, so did the M5, culminating in an icon that is defined by a distinct blend of power and refinement.

That legacy continues with the seventh-generation M5. The flagship model has now entered the age of electric, showcasing BMW’s engineering prowess and new, exciting technology.

The design of the electrified sedan is a testament to classic BMW form and function. Combining more masculine and huskier styling cues, each line and contour serves an aerodynamic purpose. Enhancements, such as the distinctive M kidney grille, M-specific side gills and quad exhaust outlets, ensure that the new M5 honors its sense of sporty sophistication.

Inside the M5, one can find an opulent, driver-oriented cockpit, featuring premium materials, ergonomic seating and advanced technology. This creates an ambiance that puts comfort first all the while maintaining a racing-inspired character. The intuitive infotainment system and digital cockpit, on the other hand, further elevates the driving experience, keeping the driver connected and informed without compromising performance.

At the heart of the new BMW M5 is a model-specific M Hybrid system, which allows for an electric motor combined with a high-revving V8 twin-turbo engine. This upgraded drive system makes the M5 incomparable to the previous models, having a system output of 535 kW/727 hp.

The hybrid engine, on the other hand, allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds while the electric motor enables an electric range of 67 to 69 kilometres in the WLTP cycle. This perfect combination of the engine and electric motor deliver longitudinal and transverse dynamics.

Its features include front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Evasion Assistant, Speed Limit Info, manual Speed Limit Assist plus a Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant and Reversing Assist Camera as a standard.

In addition, Driving Assistant Professional with Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control, automatic Speed Limit Assist, traffic light detection and Active Navigation, allow for a smooth cruising experience all the way through.
