Blancpain’s Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune is a reinterpretation of a beloved classic
Nearly 70 years later, Blancpain’s Bathyscape collection still enjoys quite the notoriety among watch collectors. The daily-use version of the iconic Fifty Fathoms collection, and its decreased diameter, made it one of the most celebrated diver’s watches ever. Recently, the Maison introduced a contemporary reinterpretation of such with the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune.
A tour de force of horological excellence, this timepiece enjoys a distinctive aesthetic quality with its use of ceramic. It also incorporates the Maison’s calendar DNA with the Bathyscape’s ability to be worn underwater.
The dial is adorned with an elegant shade of blue, which contrasts perfectly with the glare of the black ceramic case. The Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune even has a subtle gradient that blends into a sunray finish, imbuing the watch with a personality that changes with the light. Complementing these are straps available in green and black.
Blancpain made sure that the piece also exudes brilliance in craftsmanship and durability. Highly scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic, the ceramic case is five times harder than stainless steel and yet is 25% lighter. The complexity of the ceramic is carefully crafted with the same expertise, making this timepiece perfect for casual settings or diving wear. With a diameter of 43.6mm, the case allows for up to 300m of water resistance.
In terms of its horological identity, the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune enjoys the legendary 6654.P calibre movement, functioning as a revival of mechanical watchmaking. This also allows for a a secure movement. It enables the wearer to adjust the calendar indications at any time of day without damaging it.
The calibre is adorned with excellent ornamentation. Seen through the sapphire crystal case back, the mechanism holds a silicon balance-spring, making it impervious to magnetism. The piece comes with a standard 72-hour power reserve, as well.
