The new Flying Spur is Bentley’s most powerful sedan yet
The Flying Spur is arguably one of Bentley’s proudest creations that boasts an amazing performance that a combustion engine provides, as well as the efficiency that an electric motor holds. While most of the core components and upgrades are similar to its third-generation predecessor, the all-new Flying Spur becomes the most powerful four-door supercar the marque has ever created yet.
It is built around Bentley’s new Ultra Performance Hybrid, combining an advanced 600 PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a 190 PS electric motor, which are then neatly integrated within the eight-speed dual clutch transmission.
In Sport mode, the powertrain releases a full 782 PS and 1,000 Nm, with the help of the instant torque of the E-motor complementing the beat of the V8 engine. The system torque is increased by over 11 per cent compared to the outgoing W12-powered Flying Spur Speed, from 900 Nm to 1000 Nm. Its system power has also increased by 19 per cent, from 659 PS to 782 PS.
On the other hand, the pure EV mode provides 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque and offers up to 76 km of electric-only energy and speeds of up to 140 km/h, thanks to its 25.9 kWh battery. Together, the E-motor and the V8 provide the Flying Spur a total range of 829 km.
Additional features such as the Bentley Dynamic Ride and All-Wheel Steering, along with an electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential and a new generation of ESC control software also provide reliable traction in all road conditions.
While the fourth generation of the Flying Spur retains the same familiar, muscular design of its predecessor, it is now fitted with an all-new electrical architecture with new speed-specific grilles, front bumper and rear diffuser that gives the car a fresh and purposeful look. On the other hand, the dark-tinted Brightware creates a sporty and technical feel to it.
Inside the cabin, the car also features latest expressions of the Bentley’s renowned design with 3D diamond quilted seat designs and Tactile Precision 3D diamond hide, clothing the door inners and B Pillars. Additionally, an optional Dark Chrome specification trim in the door handles, switches, speaker grilles and many other areas, complement the dark-tinted Brightware.
Additional configurations and customisations can be added thanks to Bentley’s bespoke division Mulliner, allowing for a paint range of 101 colours, 22 primary hide colours, 11 secondary shades and four colour splits. Three audio system options are also offered with the supercar, including a Bang & Olufsen 1,500 W, 16-speaker system with illuminated speaker grilles and a Naim 2,200 W, 19-speaker system with Active Bass Transducers.
