Audemars Piguet’s new Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon is a Tamara Ralph classic

It wasn’t so long ago that Audemars Piguet’s first Royal Oak concept for women made quite a splash. Launched in 2018, the 18-carat white-gold timepiece featured a flying tourbillon and an array of brilliant or baguette-cut diamonds. At the time, it completely disrupted ideas of what a women’s wristwatch should be

The arrival of a new Royal Oak limited edition takes a further, trailblazing step through a collaboration with haute couture designer Tamara Ralph. Audemars Piguet first partnered with Ralph for her Spring/Summer 2021 Prêt-à-Porter collection, and the latest series blends the bold femininity of her design with the watchmaker’s futuristic signature.

The Maison began partnering with the designer for her Spring/Summer 2021 Prêt-à-Porter collection. Now, the duo takes it one step further with the new Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon “Tamara Ralph” limited edition. The series builds on the design of the women’s Flying Tourbillon model with Frosted Gold Finish in 2020. It features the same powerful visual appeal, rendered, of course, in the character of Ralph’s Haute Couture.

Showcased during Ralph’s show in Paris, the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon “Tamara Ralph” limited edition is described as “at once objets d’art and vectors of emotion.” It’s a timepiece that is distinguished by the designer’s aesthetic, merging bold femininity with the Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer’s signature futuristic components.

The timepiece displays a unique palette of graded hues ranging from bronze and mahogany to rose and golden tones, adorned with the ‘Frosted Gold’ finish the brand debuted in its 2020 release. This finish is achieved through an ancient Florentine jewellery technique whereby indentations on the surface are made using a diamond-tipped tool to create a sparkling effect. Capturing all this is the polished bevel outlining the octagonal bezel, satin-brushed flanks on the case, and a cabochon-cut sapphire serving as the crown.

“Tamara’s endless quest for perfection perfectly echoes our watchmakers’ dedication to pushing their craft to the limit,” Audemars Piguet CEO Ilaria Resta said in a statement. “We are delighted to start 2024 in collaboration with such an inspiring woman and it is only the beginning!”
